A Restorative Yoga Practice For A Long Winter
This 4 week online yoga class is a restorative ode to hibernation, the rest that winter demands, and reflection on the changing seasons.
The rest of winter is important. The hibernating animals are waiting until the conditions are right to emerge. As are the dormant trees. It's cold, dark, the earth and water are frozen. By all outward accounts, nothing is happening.
But it is. The earth is preparing for what is next.
This time of "waiting" is a "liminal space." We are suspended betwixt and between winter and spring. It's like passing through a door from outside to inside, and standing on the threshold. You are mid-way - neither inside or outside. It's a "threshold time."
Being in "liminal space" is a common emotional experience in grief.
The past is gone, and the future is yet to be, and the present feels barren. Just like winter, the call is to rest. To wait. To trust that spring (emotional spring) will arrive.
This month we will explore the rest and waiting time of winter with a restorative yoga practice, including reflections on liminal space, paradox and the hopefulness enherent in the coming of spring. Our overall theme for this month is Rest and Patience.
